A tale of two city Centres

City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality is situated in the southern peninsula of the Western Cape province. Langa, the Province’s, oldest black African Suburb is located at the center of the Metropolitan Municipality’s three main economics nodes: ‘City Center, Bellville and Claremont.

This first planned African township in the Country has languished at the bottom of the racialized social order for generations. This has left a devastating effect on the Langa community. Through ‘Aspirational Development,’ Ikhaya le Langa’s strategy is to focus on ‘what is right about Langa.’

The old current city center (CBD) is undergoing rapid transformation with new, exciting, world-class developments including the V&A Waterfront, Portside, the proposed CTICC extension, and The D6 Fringe. The interventions in the Colored and Black communities in the Cape Flats tend towards remedial developmental and service delivery.
